Vibration Analysis Courses from the CBM Academy

These are either 4 or 5 day courses and can be at the trainer facilities, our client’s site or online.

Vibration Analysis Courses

AVT Reliability BV (formerly Van Geffen Reliability) has 3 levels of Vibration Analysis courses with CBM Academy. These offer clients the opportunity to build on their expertise in vibration analysis.

Each level develops practical capability, from fundamentals through to advanced diagnostics, programme design and machine dynamics.

Category I, Basic
Duration: 4 days
Standard: ISO 18436

Developed in accordance with ISO 18436, Category I teaches the basic concepts and techniques involved in vibration analysis and condition monitoring. It is suitable for anyone new to vibration analysis and looking to build practical knowledge and skills.

The course covers the benefits of condition monitoring and how it improves machine reliability, with an overview of complementary technologies including thermography, oil analysis and motor testing. It then focuses on vibration analysis, including required equipment, measurement technique and interpretation to determine machinery condition.

Topics include signal processing basics, spectrum analysis, spectral averaging, resonance and an introduction to setting alarm limits.

Practical delivery, supported by 3D animations, simulations and software tools to consolidate understanding. Hands-on skills can be applied in the workplace immediately.

Category II, Intermediate
Duration: 5 days
Format: 4 days training, plus review and exam

Category II is for those who already have a good foundation and need to go further in depth to be fully competent in setting up testing equipment and diagnosing faults.

Participants gain a deeper understanding of vibration analysis within reliability management, including how balancing and alignment can be used to correct issues identified by analysis.

Topics include vibration principles, analyser set up and settings, where and how to take measurements for repeatable metrics, meaning of changes in vibration signals, and introduction to time waveform and phase analysis for verifying fault conditions. The course also covers tests to verify diagnosis and how to set vibration alarm limits.

Category III, Advanced
Duration: 5 days
Format: 4 days training, plus review and exam

This advanced course is for participants with at least 2 years of vibration analysis experience. It encompasses the full detail of vibration and phase analysis and encourages a deeper understanding of machine dynamics and condition monitoring technologies.

Category III goes beyond ISO 18436-2 and meets ASNT Level III recommended practice. It enables participants to confidently diagnose common fault conditions and incorporate vibration analysis into a strong condition monitoring programme.

The course covers time waveform and phase analysis in depth, signal processing, cross-channel testing, and machine dynamics including natural frequencies and resonance. It also covers how to test for these behaviours and how problems can be corrected.
