Pipework & Anti vibration products
Our pipework and anti-vibration products can reduce piping fatigue risk at your facility.
Benefit from our engineers field experience, flexibility, problem solving experience and from a comprehensive range of proven solutions for all common pipework vibration problems.
Pipework & anti vibration productsMost piping systems require a flexible design to allow for thermal growth and shrinkage during temperature changes. Without it, piping can experience high static stresses creating problems including low-cycle fatigue, excessive equipment nozzle loads, machinery casing distortion and excessive support structure loads. Designing for flexibility can conflict with vibration design requirements for stiffness and rigidity. AVT Reliability BV (formerly Van Geffen Reliability) has developed a range of unique products to reduce piping fatigue risk, however every situation is unique and requires thorough preliminary research to arrive at the best decisions. |
How we approach the problem In some cases, a source approach is possible by reducing or isolating impulse and excitation forces. To deliver a suitable solution in every situation, we maintain a practical range of anti-vibration |
Pipework & anti vibration products
Most piping systems require flexible design to accommodate thermal growth and shrinkage. Without it, piping can experience high static stresses leading to fatigue, excessive nozzle loads, casing distortion and high support loads.
Flexibility requirements can conflict with vibration stiffness needs. AVT Reliability has developed unique products to reduce piping fatigue risk, supported by thorough preliminary assessment.
How we approach the problem
Where possible we reduce or isolate excitation forces at source. Where this is not sufficient, we apply practical anti-vibration products backed by engineering assessment.
Applications
The applications of our pipework and anti-vibration products are most commonly found in piping systems, including Small Bore Connections (SBC), across a wide range of industries. These systems are particularly susceptible to vibration-induced fatigue and benefit significantly from engineered bracing, damping, or isolation solutions.
Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) are also widely applied to vertically positioned drives. Typical examples include large cooling water pumps in power stations, bow thrusters on board ships, and mixer drive installations.
These systems are often characterised by elevated radial vibration levels at the electric motor non-drive end (NDE). Depending on excitation forces and foundation stiffness, vibration amplitudes can reach high or even extreme levels.
A properly engineered and correctly positioned tuned mass damper can be an extremely effective solution for reducing these vibration levels and mitigating long-term fatigue risks.
