Energy & Performance Assessments

What are Energy and performance assessments? Energy and performance assessments provide clear actionable insights about energy loss, single system cost improvements and reliability improvements.

Understanding and working towards effective energy performance improvements is an integral part of achieving ISO 50001 compliance.

Energy loss surveys provide clear, actionable insight into what to implement in order to remove waste
and drive measurable performance improvements across your operation.

Focus areas

With a strong focus on emissions reduction, sustainability engagement, and payback expectations,
our consultant engineers are trained and certified in the use of a broad range of survey equipment.

Our Solution

Targeted energy assessments designed to reduce consumption, emissions, and operating costs
while supporting long-term reliability and ISO 50001 objectives.

AVT Reliability BV (formerly Van Geffen Reliability) delivers structured energy performance
assessments that identify losses, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities across
industrial sites. Our approach focuses on practical, measurable actions with clear payback.

Energy assessment scope

  • Compressed air consumption and leakage losses
  • Electric motor performance and efficiency
  • Steam usage, losses, and distribution efficiency
  • Pump performance and application suitability

Our energy management consultants support clients in achieving ISO 50001 targets, improving
single-system cost performance, and increasing overall asset reliability.

Emissions reduction focus areas

  • Steam systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Pumping systems
  • Electrical motors and drives

Our consultants focus on measurable payback, emissions reduction, and improved reliability across
key industrial energy systems.

Steam assessment survey
Steam Assessment

As part of our Maintenance Assessment Program (MAP) framework, steam assessments use thermography
and ultrasound to focus on known loss areas including valves, traps, piping, and insulation.

Our consultants inspect, identify, and define actions for each survey area, ensuring findings are
reported and trended. The objective is to reduce energy losses, improve availability and reliability,
enhance steam performance, and reduce plant emissions.

Pump Assessment

Within our MAP framework, a pump assessment helps identify where simple system improvements can be
made and provides insight into unreliable bad actors.

The assessment supports improvements in energy consumption and system efficiency, reviews pump
reliability and critical spares considerations, and includes a health check of key components,
including pump and sealing system elements.

Compressed air assessment survey
Air Assessment

Compressed air leak detection surveys can be completed while plant and equipment remain operational.
Taking equipment offline is not required and large areas can be surveyed within a single day.

Compressed air is expensive to generate, and many sites still operate with leakage rates exceeding
50% of total system loading. Using ultrasonic handheld devices, we locate and quantify leaks and
produce a prioritised action plan.

Our surveys enable you to

  • Locate leaks, even in congested plant rooms
  • Assess leak size by volume
  • Calculate annual cost per leak
  • Photograph and identify (tag) each leak
  • Raise a repair action with priority
  • Produce a comprehensive report detailing leak location, type, and cost impact

These surveys can also be used to locate vacuum leaks and leaks from gas systems such as nitrogen,
oxygen, and argon. We also offer Optical Gas Imaging services to locate hydrocarbon leaks.

Steam Assessment

Thermography and ultrasound surveys targeting valves, traps, piping, and insulation to reduce losses,
improve availability, and support emissions reduction.

Pump assessment survey

Pump Assessment

Identify improvement opportunities, unreliable bad actors, and efficiency gains, supported by health
checks of critical pump and sealing components.

Air Assessment

Leak detection while equipment remains operational, producing quantified leak costs, tagged actions,
and a prioritised repair plan. Also suitable for vacuum and industrial gas leak detection.
