The Challenge

This pump is in the basement which is a restricted area due to high pressure hydraulic oil pumps that are located there.

The failed pump is critical to production, pushing hot water through the system. All production stopped when the broken pumps were identified.

Our Approach

The pump has been monitored since 2022, the basement is restricted area and so a Machine Sentry Gateway is uploading the data directly into the Machine Sentry cloud with the VG Reliability team carrying out a monthly analysis of the data. In Summer 2023 a slight increase in the trend was visible.

At the beginning of November the trend increased significantly.

Our Findings

During our periodically analyses we took note of the increasing trend. During a routine site visit the attending engineer also checked the pump and found the foundation bolts had failed.

The Solution

Arrangements were made to have an engineering team attend repair and re-align the e-motor to the pump leaving it in full working order.

The pump remains on the continuous monitoring plan and so monthly analysis of the collected data will continue. Any future changes to the trend will be identified.
